Puffed Up & Deflated? // Luke 18:14

Today’s verse comes from Jesus’ teaching on the tax collector and the Pharisee. The Pharisee was guilty of *trying* to puff himself up in the eyes of God over the tax collector. The idea here is he was acknowledging his position before God by putting down someone he saw as less than him. We tend to do that, don’t we? As the Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 6:7, God cannot be mocked. God knows what’s going on in our heart! If we think we can puff up ourselves at the expense of another, we will ultimately be deflated by the One whose nature is the breath of life.
