Dwell // Psalm 27:4
Psalm 27:4 (NLT) | The one thing I ask of the Lord—the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.
I came to better understand this verse after experiencing crippling grief. Acknowledging that my loss spurred a deep burden for heaven helped me move from despair to hope. That hope changed my life, to put it plainly. Now that I am several steps beyond that time, and I know the burden for eternity is real, it also began to change the way I see “today.” I think this is the essence of King David’s statement. Living in the house of the Lord begins right now. How is that so? We know from Scripture that God comes to reign in our heart when we accept Jesus as Savior; therefore, you can begin that process of living with God all the days of your life in the here-and-now. Please know how awesome that is! The gift of eternal life begins right now. Jesus emphasized this once while being challenged when he said that the Kingdom of God isn’t something we can point to as a time or place, because, “the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21, NKJV). Friends, this is the perfect way for us to begin thinking of how we can dwell in the house of the Lord beginning today. Don’t wait, accept the gift, and dwell freely.
