Desire & Power // Philippians 2:13
I want to take a moment this morning to revisit the same verse from yesterday. Whereas yesterday we explored salvation, today I want to think about living daily in faith. Think about what we read in the graphic below: “God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” I am reminded of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane pleading with the disciples to stay awake with Him in prayer: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41). Were truer words ever spoken? We can struggle to do the things we know we need to do; especially when those things are hard. It strikes me that the Bible tells us that it is a sin to know what to do and not do it (James 4:17). Obviously, we need help. Thankfully, God Himself doesn’t just give the help but IS the help! He comes to help us know the right thing to do and then the empowering encouragement to follow through. If you’re struggling a little bit this morning either knowing what to do, or finding the gumption to do it, go to God in prayer. Ask Him for help and find comfort in knowing that help is readily available to you. And it isn’t some nebulous motivation, it is the very powerful presence of God Himself working in you. Thank you, Lord!
