Personifying Peace // Psalm 34:14
Let’s take note of the action words in today’s verse: turn, do, seek, pursue. And what is the object? Peace. Peace in the Bible comes from God and not the things of the world; in fact, there are numerous references that depict the Lord as our God of Peace (click here for more). Jesus said in John 14:27 that He gives us peace that the world cannot give. Philippians 4:7 relays words from Paul that God’s peace transcends our understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:33 goes on to say that peace casts out chaos. Isaiah 9:6 prophesied that Jesus would come and be our Prince of Peace. What is so cool about all these ideas is they personify something that might feel fleeting when we’re under stress. The God of Peace comes to us when we need Him, so our responsibility is then to turn away from how evil might otherwise be tempting us to behave; do good to others when it might not make sense; seek the God of Peace above our own comfort; and pursue the God of Peace always and forever. Does this help you think about ways to be peaceful — or peace-filled — when life is otherwise peaceless? I pray it might help.
