People over Problems // 1 Peter 4:8

1 Peter 4:8 (NIV) | Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

Today’s verse, when read in its entirety, gives a potent truth about doing life with others, and that’s how we at times run into problems in our relationships. Sometimes it’s foreseeable and other times completely inadvertent. Regardless, we know there are times when someone else’s decision effects another in some pretty profound ways. This is why Peter wrote what he did about loving others deeply since love covers a multitude of sins. It’s like acknowledging how someone’s behavior hurt you, despite whether it was intentional or not, by saying the person is more important than the problem. This is where the love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness of Jesus transforms our experience of life when we are committed to loving deeply in spite of the conflicts we face. So, focus on the person and not the problem. Let love be your guiding light, and if you do, you’ll realize it was Jesus — the Light of the World — the entire time.
