‘Out Of’ or ‘From’? // Hebrews 5:7
Today’s verse is worthy of a little closer examination. Upon first reading, you might wonder what this means since Jesus did indeed suffer and go to the cross where He was crucified and killed. Please don’t read this in any way that might feel contradictory, for what the write of Hebrews means in that Jesus was saved from final death. This is specifically referring to Jesus’ Resurrection. It might make more sense with the understanding of our English grammar that Jesus was saved “out of death” as opposed from death. Let’s take a look at Acts 2:24 which gives us another look at this concept: “God raised [Jesus] from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.” We will all taste death, no matter how we might pray to be saved from it; therefore, let’s shape our prayers in faith that thanks to Jesus, we will be saved out of death thanks to God’s glorious and merciful power!
