On Light // Psalm 119:105

God’s Word is Light. This brings to mind how God created light on the first day (Genesis 1:3-5) but waited until the fourth day to create the things that we associate with giving light; i.e., the sun, moon and stars (Genesis 1:14-19). Then, similarly to yesterday’s post, we see that Jesus is the Light of the World present in the beginning (John 1:1-5), during His earthly ministry (John 8:12), helps us to see post-resurrection (2 Corinthians 4:6), and will shine forever (Revelation 22:5)! I refer you to all of those Bible passages, because the Old and New Testaments alike both point to the eternal nature and presence of Jesus as the Light of God who illuminates our path to go God’s way. So, as we kick off this Monday morning, I hope you make a little time for Jesus who makes our ability to “see” possible. I want to close with Ephesians 1:18-19a since the Apostle Paul gave us a glimpse that just like God doesn’t need the sun, moon, or stars to provide light, we don’t need eyes in our head in order to see — “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” May we all see Jesus as a spotlight on our feet as we follow Him, and a floodlight for our path of faith, now and forever more.

Dear Lord, let it be and help me see your light, even when our world feels so dark. Amen.
