Object Shift // Mark 9:23
How does today’s verse strike you? It’s one that can be a bit controversial. I remember having a chat with my dad one day about this very idea. He snidely replied, “Well, you can’t give birth to a baby.” We face issues all the time where we want the impossible to be possible. So, how are we to square expectation with reality? The answer is in this verse when we realize the issue isn’t our belief as much as it is the object of one’s belief. The disciples didn’t necessarily need more faith but focused faith. To say it another way, the disciples needed to place their belief in the correct object—Jesus Christ. This requires a shift of perspective for all of us from what we want to the One who can do all things. This is echoed by the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:13 when he wrote, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” The object isn’t what I can do, but the One in whom I commit to do the things. So, if you need to shift the object, shift your focus. Focus on the Who, not the what. That, my friend, will change your life!
