National Napping Day // 1 Kings 19:5
National Napping Day is observed after Daylight Saving Time begins in the United States, offering a lighthearted reminder to catch up on rest after losing an hour of sleep. It highlights how important rest is for our bodies, minds, and even our spiritual lives—not as laziness, but as a God-given gift. I am reminded of Elijah after defeating the prophets of Baal. He was so depleted he just wanted to die. 1 Kings 19:5 gives a great insight about what God wanted and provided for him: “Then [Elijah] lay down under the tree and slept” (NCV). That reminds me of a great quote from Pastor Rick Warren talking about the importance of rest; he wrote, “Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap.” As you pause today, let your “nap” be an act of faith: releasing your burdens, slowing your pace, and remembering that your worth is not measured by your productivity but by God’s love for you. It is a gift from God for your ongoing health and wellness.
