National Lost & Found Day // Luke 19:10

Today’s is National Lost and Found Day. It’s believed this day is traced back to the year 718 when a code was written in Japan to trace lost property. It was officially made a thing in 2012, to be celebrated on the second Friday of each December. I cannot think of this day without reflecting upon Luke 15, which is where we find Jesus’ parables of the lost sheep, lost coin, and lost son. Each of these parables speak to the joy experienced when what once was lost is found. These parables were in response to what the religious leaders and elite were saying about Jesus and how He spent time with sinners, even eating with them. What’s important to know about that is sharing food in the Jewish faith is an act of reconciliation; therefore, Jesus was living into the promise that He came to save people from the sins and reconcile them back to God. Jesus exhibited this in His words and actions when He declared His mission statement that He “came to seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10). Friends, this includes you. If you are feeling lost today, I hope you can find comfort that someone is looking for you…and not just someone, but God’s One and Only Son. He is looking for you and looking forward to celebrating you in heaven when what once was lost is found.
