National Library Day // John 21:25

It’s National Library Day, a time to reflect on the wonders of books and the places where we can go to find them. I think it’s pretty cool that today is also Holy Thursday, or the day when we remember Jesus’ Last Supper. Jesus’ Last Supper was actually the Passover meal, which was an annual celebration commemorating God’s deliverance of His people out of slavery in Egypt. Christ transformed the meaning of that meal to be our promise of salvation through the forgiveness of sins as we eat from the loaf and drink from the cup representing His body and blood given for us. So what do National Library Day and Holy Thursday have in common? I’m glad you asked! I see it in the closing verse of John’s Gospel where we read, “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” Forget your local library or the Library of Congress or the British Library (the world’s largest)…the annals of eternity are contained in God’s living and saving Word. The One who was present at creation and enables your re-creation is also available to you right this moment. He is as near as your very next breath and is as vital to living as your very next heartbeat. Come to Him and do what He asks of us all on this holy day, simply to remember Him. He is there for you as vast as our ever-expanding universe and as intimate as your very best friend. The world indeed could not contain all of the books of who He is and what He does for us all. So, let’s remember and give thanks to the love of God in Christ Jesus.
