National Baking Day // Psalm 34:8
What is your favorite kind of cake? Mine is carrot cake topped with a thick, decadent cream cheese frosting. The thing about cakes is many of the individual ingredients aren’t very appetizing on their own. From flour, oil, and baking soda, none of those items are particularly appetizing. I like carrots, nuts, raisins sugar, and cream cheese on their own, but I can’t say it would make the best snack mix. But when you combine all those ingredients with some elbow grease, heat, a little heat, and the perfect amount of time, you end up with a delicacy! Shoot, I have even gone back to the trashcan on more than one occasion to get the final stale bits not wanting to waste a single crumb! Gross, I know, but it’s true.
On this National Baking Day, I think it’s a good idea to consider some of the individual elements of your life right now. I am sure there are some ingredients you would never choose for yourself, but they are actually essential to the sweetness that is you. God wants to take all of what makes you, you; then apply a little elbow grease, expose you to some purifying heat, and patiently wait through the perfect amount of time — carefully watching all the while — until you are the masterpiece God planned for you to be! So, don’t turn your nose up at some of the ingredients you might wish weren’t necessary, but know God is working out all things together for good for those who love Him.
