Motivations // Hebrews 10.24-25

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) | And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

What motivates you to do good things for the people in your life? This doesn’t have to correspond only to “good people”, because Jesus taught that there is a great reward in showing love to people who might not show it in return.

Today’s verse encourages us to think about how me might spur others on to love and good deeds. But it goes on to say that these deeds have a purpose: to keep us close and connected to God and each other; in other words, community.

The Day is approaching indeed. Even though we are just starting a New Year, we grow closer to the Day of the Lord with each new morning. May we take the time and energy today necessary to spur on others to do the same and keep on keeping on until Jesus’ return.
