Motivation and Inspiration Day // John 21:17

John 21:17 | Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was deeply hurt that Jesus had asked him a third time, “Do you love Me?” “Lord, You know all things,” he replied. “You know I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.

Happy Motivation and Inspiration Day! This is a day when many people kick their New Year’s Resolutions or goals into gear. The indulgence and busyness of the holidays is beginning to subside and it’s time to get back on track.

I chose the verse for today because it comes in a section known as the restoration of Peter. Peter denied knowing Jesus and fleeing from Him when he felt the heat. Peter came back to Jesus and this exchange restored their relationship. You might note that Jesus asked this same question of Peter three times, which corresponds directly to the number of times Peter denied knowing Jesus. The restoration came with a purpose, though, which was to go and share the Good News and help others know that God is real and really good. That encounter motivated and inspired Peter in amazing ways and the world is different because of it.

We all have problems in our past that break relationship with God. Jesus came to reconcile us back to God and restore our relationships. This comes with a purpose, which is to help share the love of God with others. Will you allow God’s forgiveness to motivate and inspire you to live for Jesus? Let’s start this New Year ready to go and go for God!
