Mindfully Focused // Psalm 8:4
What are the things of which you’re mindful? Big things? What about the little things? Do you ever sit back and wonder why you seem to put so much mental energy into the things that seem small? I know I do. In some of those moments, though, I realize they are important to me. Of course, some of that means I must work on my perspective so some things don’t take on an oversized importance, but they are important all the same. I think about that when I read today’s verse. There are many times when I look at myself with my hopes and dreams and wonder if they ever measure up to God’s. Then, I’ll look at my baggage and burdens and minimize them, too. One of the most beautiful things you’ll find in the Bible is how God cares about us and the things we care about, too. King David pondered why people are so important to God when it seems like He has so many bigger things to worry about than the things we worry about. But Jesus took it a step farther and told us that God even cares about the things we rarely, if ever, give a second thought. Consider what He said as recorded in Luke 12:7, “Yes, God even knows how many hairs you have on your head. Don’t be afraid.” We see that God isn’t just mindful of us, He is focused on us, even down to the smallest of details. There is an old idiom that says the devil is in the details. Did you know that there is a variant of that which says “God is in the detail”? Note the difference. One talks about plural details whereas the other looks at the totality of detail. That’s God. Pretty awesome, huh? God cares about every little thing in you and your life. He sent Jesus to redeem those things big and small so we can be restored for service in the Kingdom of Heaven. Let the things of your life, big and small alike, help keep you mindful that God is mindful of you. There is nothing too trivial or trite for God to ignore…He cares about it all. So, let’s use the things we care about to be mindful of others, so we can connect with them and help point them to Jesus!
