Christ’s Eternal Reward // Luke 6:27-28

Today’s verse comes in a section where Jesus effectively connects our behavior with eternal rewards. Where is the reward if we only love the people in return who love us since evil people do the same? What sets Jesus followers apart is how we treat people who are awful to us. We must make it a practice to love our enemies, do good to our haters, bless those who hurl curses, and pray for those who mistreat us. This flies in the face of an eye-for-an-eye mentality but follows in the footsteps of our Lord. After all, the Bible teaches us that God chose to save us even while we were still His enemies, and it’s the death of Jesus that made us right with Him. May we remember that next time we want to retaliate and choose to live like Jesus in the face of evil. This, my friends, brings us Christ’s eternal reward!
