Love Reset // John 13:34-35

Today is Love Reset Day, observed directly following Valentine’s Day. The idea is for those disillusioned by inaccurate or incomplete ideas of love to reset and recenter on what true love really means. This is especially important if you’re left feeling empty after the chocolates are devoured or the flowers wilt or another year passed where you were longing for some token of love. Jesus wants us to orient our lives around love and putting that love into action for others. This is a rude awakening for those for whom love is self-seeking. Jesus said as recorded in John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (NIV). The idea behind this teaching is we show who we are — and Whose we are — based on how we put ourselves out there in love. Do you need a love reset today? If so, turn to God because He is the One Who loved you first. He wants you to take that love and share it with others, signifying to all the meaning of true love. It isn’t found in tokens or trinkets, but transformation thanks to the love of God in Christ Jesus, given freely for you, me, and all the world!
