Love 2 // 1 Corinthians 13:5

Yesterday we looked at the virtues of love and how that run against some of our lower nature. That thought continues today with verse 5 as we see that love does not dishonor others, it isn’t self-seek, isn’t easily angered, and keeps no records of wrongs. This really speaks to us about how we behave when we feel wronged or wounded. Part of our human nature is to get even, and when challenged, give others a history lesson from hell about all the things we perceive to be wrong. Paul wrote in Romans 12:20 that we are not to seek revenge on people, but rather to show kindness. That might feel like a bitter pill to swallow, but Paul went on to write that when we seek good in the face of evil it is like heaping burning colas on the others’ head! So, how do you read this? Who in your life could use a healing helping of burning coals on his or her head? Don’t reach into the furnace of your anger; rather dig deeply into the love of God to help you focus on the love of God and allow Him to deal with the rest.
