Logos // John 1:14
John 1:14 (NIV) | The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Do you have a favorite logo? Maybe a sports team or a particular brand? I do and can’t decide between several that immediately come to mind. Did you know that the word, logo, comes from the Greek word, logos, which translates to the physical representation of a word? This presents a pretty rich thought when we look at today’s verse in the Biblical language that says Jesus is the logos of God, or the physical representation of God’s Word.
I really like how The Message version paraphrases this verse; check it out: “The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” One of our common themes of late is how the word glory frequently refers to the physical presence of God. God’s word and God’s glory came to us, moved into the neighborhood to do life with us, and to show us the way back to a godly life. This knowledge begs a response from us as we hear Jesus’ invitation to join Him on His mission for humanity “to seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10). We need to choose whether to follow Jesus or just forget about it and go our own way.
What will you choose? The good news is you can change your choice if you want. If you started down the path and got off of it along the way, you can always come back to Christ. Just make that turn and you’ll find that the Lord is right there with a word to welcome you, comfort you, challenge you, and change you. Look for the evidence of God’s presence, listen for His voice, and see the difference Jesus longs to make in your life!
