Let’s Promote God’s Good News // 2 Thessalonians 3:3

Do you want to see God’s good news spread? I do! I remember being in a debate once with another pastor of a different denomination over a doctrinal issue. My friend said our job is to protect the Gospel. I replied how I see our job as to promote the Gospel, because God can take care of himself. We shared a smile after that exchange. It reminds me of today’s verse from 2 Thessalonians 3:3. It comes in a broader section (2 Thessalonians 3:1-5) about how Paul wanted to see the Gospel spread while acknowledging there were forces — wicked people, the devil, and the devil’s minions — deliberately trying to suppress the Good News. This passage calls for Jesus followers to take courage, because God of God’s power; find comfort that though evil might try to isolate us, God is always present; have confidence, because God will protect us; and continue to do the good work because of Christ’s perseverance.

What does this mean to you today? How can you promote the Good News of Jesus despite the wicked decay all around us? How can the courage, comfort, confidence, and continuance given by Jesus help you in your mission?
