Let’s Laugh Day // Genesis 18:20
Have you found laughter to be the best medicine? Laughter helps us physically as well as psychologically. Laughter helps reduce stress, improve mood, bond with others, as well as shifting perspective. One of my favorite references to laughter in the Bible comes when Abraham and Sarah learn they are going to be parents in their well-advanced age. Both laughed at the prospect as we read in Genesis 18:20, “[Sarah] laughed silently to herself and said, ‘How could a worn-out woman like me enjoy such pleasure, especially when my master—my husband—is also so old?’” Their son was eventually, and miraculously born, receiving the name, Isaac, which means, laughter. I imagine Abraham and Sarah both laughed quite a bit as they experienced the miracle of parenthood, watching Isaac grow and learn. Their stress was probably relieved, giving them a better mood, helping them bond, and shifting their perspective from the miracle to the Miracle Worker. So, today, take time to laugh and see what it does for you. It is the best medicine and will help you face whatever comes your way.
