Keep Doing Good // Romans 12:21
Do you ever feel like evil has the upper hand? I can’t help but think of an exchange in “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” when young Luke Skywalker asked Master Yoda if the dark side of the Force was more powerful than the light side. Yoda replied that it wasn’t more powerful, but it was more seductive, and therefore more easily to succumb to it. The quickness of evil’s ability to strike can make it seem more powerful. It isn’t. God’s power is exhibited in restraint, and when He lets loose, nothing will be able to stand. God hasn’t completely let loose in our lifetime, though, so what are we to do? Keep doing good. Yes, this crazy, mixed-up culture sees Christianity as wrong, out of touch, and bigoted. It can be hard to keep doing good when the world sees what Jesus followers do as good and label it evil. That’s ok. Don’t stop. I like how 1 Peter 2:12 encourages us to keep on keeping on, because God wants us to have the end in mind; check it out, “Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.” Will you do that today even in the face of unbelievers calling God’s way backwards and bigoted? I will strive to do so and pray you will, too.
