God’s Forever Family // John 1:12

Yesterday we looked at a verse from 1 Peter about how God makes us His special possession and brings us into His wonderful light. Today’s verse carries a very similar connotation from John 1, which refers to Jesus as “the true light, who gives light to everyone” (John 1:9) and gives us the right to become God’s children. Jesus was God’s one and only Son, but thanks to His Sacrifice, we are given full rights of the family when we place our faith in Him. Check out Ephesians 1:5 which connects this to the miracle of adoption: “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Thanks to Jesus, we are adopted into God’s forever family and given all the same honors, rights, and privileges thereof. All it takes is to believe in Jesus as God’s Son, raised from the dead, because “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too” (1 John 5:1, NIV).
