Jesus’ Wounds, Your Healing // 1 Peter 2:24

1 Peter 2:24 (NIV) | “[Jesus] himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Peter quoted a powerful prophecy from Isaiah 53:4-5, linking it to the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. That ancient prophecy reads as follows: “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” The BIG idea is whereas some might incorrectly believe that God punished Jesus, the reality is Jesus took our punishment so we can be saved. Jesus did this willingly, laying down His life on His own accord with the power to take it up again (John 10:17-18). All of this is to show you that the horror of Jesus’ sacrifice is the hope for your soul. The pain He endured is so you can live into God’s purpose. Christ’s wounds pave the way for your healing. Then, the Lord bestows that same power onto you so you can rise above the threats you face in this world to live boldly for Him.
