God’s Promise and Prosperity // Jeremiah 31:25
Wat comes to mind when you read today’s verse? Is it an ice-cold glass of sweet tea or Mountain Dew? How about a great big steak or bowl of ice cream? Those sound pretty good, but they fall way short of what God told the prophet Jeremiah. God is referring to the soul, not just the mind, mouth, or belly. Those who were exiled, cut off from community, and left to wonder if God was real or really good felt a kind of parched and famished that cannot be replenished with food or drink. Only God can soothe and satisfy the broken heart, the wounded soul, and oppressed spirit. God was bringing the people back and saying He would once again make their land sacred and prosperous.
Perhaps you are enduring a time when you cut off, wondering, parched, and famished. No glass or plate can contain what you need to refresh and satisfy. Open your hands, head, and heart in prayer and ask God to fill you. He wants to remind you that the promise and prosperity we all need — the same which cannot be taken from us — is found in Him and Him alone.
