Iron Sharpening Iron // Proverbs 27:17
What sharpens you when you feel dull? I like to listen to worship music and take a brisk walk. It helps me connect with God in my heart, mind, and soul. We all need someone else to help sharpen us and keep us that way. The ultimate meaning of today’s verse emphasizes that we cannot do life alone. We end up being dull and gravitate toward uselessness when we do. You know the process of sharpening requires friction, which isn’t always fun. This is why the iron by which we find ourselves sharpened must be pure. We find that kind of iron in a friend with whom we can be ourselves, someone who will love us in spite of ourselves, and someone we permit to speak truth in our lives. Do you have someone who is iron for you? If you’re struggling, start with a sharpening stone, but not just any stone, the stone that is Jesus Christ…the very foundation of life. Start with Jesus and trust Him to lead you to someone else who can help sharpen you through friendly support and authentic accountability. We all need iron to sharpen us lest we become dull and reap the consequences.
