Imitation // 3 John 1:11

Have you heard that imitation is the finest form of flattery? I remember imitating friends I admired when I was young and trying to find myself. Now, I see how my kids and others imitate things I do and say. It makes me smile but also causes me to feel humble. Am I living in such a way where I’m pleased to see Ethan, Brighton, or anyone else for that matter imitate me? It flies in the face of many people’s response of “do what I do, not what I say.” Jesus wants our lives to be congruent in belief and behavior…words, deeds, and intentions. That means we need to make sure we are imitating the One who is worthy of that honor. Listen to Jesus. Look to Jesus. Live like Jesus. Will you fall short? Without a doubt. So what? Strive. Do the good work. Learn from God so you can live like God wants you to. And when you fall short, practice confession, make an apology, and seek reconciliation. It will prove not just you are but whose you are.
