Help! // Isaiah 41:13

As a fan of The Beatles, the first thing that came to mind when I read today’s verse was their hit song, “Help!” The song begins with the lyrics, “Help, I need somebody. Help, not just anybody. Help, you know I need someone! Help…!” We need to know who to turn to when we face crises of all sorts. Isaiah 41:13 has God telling the Prophet, and us by extension, that He is the One who helps. This sentiment echoes a question posed by the Psalmist, “…where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 1211b-2). If you need somebody — and not just anybody — turn to the Good Lord, our Creator, Redeemer, and Helper, who is none other than the Holy Spirit as Jesus identified in John 14:16.
