Saved and Sent // Hebrews 4:16
When do you find yourself feeling tentative? For me, it’s a fear of failure. I have such a perfectionist streak, but what’s so unusual is there are times I choose not to try my best for fear of giving it my all and failing anyway. Weird, I know, but it’s one of those proverbial thorns in my flesh. When we read today’s verse, we see that God wants us to approach Him with confidence. What’s unique is perfection is God’s standard…a standard we are unlikely to ever achieve. This doesn’t absolve us from striving though (see Mathew 5:48). So what are we to do? Trust the incomparable love of God, that’s what! Today’s verse tells us that we can approach the Lord with confidence knowing we do so in His love as opposed to our lack. Note how Hebrews 4:16 says that the Lord’s throne is where we find mercy and grace. Remember, grace is the love of God given we can never earn and mercy is what protects us from the penalties we most definitely deserve. So the help God gives us in our time of need ultimately comes to His love that fills in our gaps and sets us on a new trajectory. We are all saved and sent in the love of God for us in Christ Jesus. May that be the confidence by which we embrace the world and share our living hope with a lost and weary world.
