Happy Veteran’s Day // 1 Peter 4:10
Happy Veteran’s Day! This is a time we set aside to remember those who served in the nation’s armed forces. It was originally Armistice Day, commemorating the end of WWI, and officially changed to Veteran’s Day in 1954 to celebrate all who served.
Service is a critical component of Christianity. Jesus taught about how the greatest are the ones who serve. He also modeled it by washing the disciples feet at the Last Supper. Service is key to our faith life, because it calls us out of self and to be mindful of others; primarily, those we are called to serve.
Our verse for today shares that God gave every one of us special we are to use in service to others. These Spiritual Gifts are designed to build of the Body of Christ (i.e., the Church) and help make Jesus known. You have gifts specific to who you are and where you are called to serve. Do you know what they are? Do you know how to use them? May I suggest something as simple as a basic spiritual gift inventory to help? Here is one I use.
Thank a veteran today for his or her service. Then, by that same inspiration, find a way to serve. Remember Jesus taught that service is great because it point us to our Great God. May that be our life and love today.
