Happy Mother’s Day // Luke 1:28

Happy Mother’s Day! I am blessed by some wonderful motherhood models in my life and look forward to celebrating them today. I recognize that not everyone has a great experience with mothers (or fertility or children for that matter) but the gift of motherhood changes lives that change the world.

There is one mother from Scripture that deserves some attention — Mary, Jesus’ mother. Luke 1:28 depicts the Angel Gabriel’s announcement as he said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” One of the first and most important decisions God the Father made prior to sending Jesus to earth was to choose the woman who would bear the Savior. Jesus had a strong relationship with His mother throughout His life reflected during His crucifixion by arranging for Mary to be cared for by John the Beloved Disciple (John 19:26-27). This proves how dear the role of a mother is to the heart of God. Yes, Mary’s heart was broken watch what Jesus endured, but she knew from the beginning that her life was eternally intertwined with God’s plan to save the world (Luke 1:46-55).

Motherhood is important to God and I hope it’s important to you, too. Let’s give thanks to the beautiful examples of moms we see around us. Happy Mother’s Day, my friends!
