Happy Boxing Day // Proverbs 19:17

Happy Boxing Day! Today historically was a day when people would box up gifts, leftovers, etc. and give to the poor. As so much has, it’s been twisted in our modern culture to where people either see it as a time to spar with family members, take back Christmas gifts to exchange for something they really wanted, or to put away the decorations, essentially boxing up Christmas until next year. There are two things I want to remind you as we start this Boxing Day: (1) Christmas is actually a season of 12 days, so it does not end until the Epiphany on January 6; and (2) God came in Christ to save us in our spiritual bankruptcy so we can become heirs to the riches of eternity. One of the most important things we can do this time of year — and every day for that matter — is to take seriously Jesus’ words that whatever we do, even (if not especially) to those we consider the least in the world, we are actually doing for Him (Matthew 25:40). So, let’s keep celebrating Christmas and make it a way of life to help people in their needs, regardless of how they present themselves. Let’s use our lives and resources to point people to Jesus and make the love of God known to all. It’s the perfect way to mark this year’s Boxing Day.
