God’s Workmanship at Work // Ephesians 2:10
God created you with a purpose for your life. This is to help order your thoughts, feelings, commitments, and actions. I love how today’s verse gives us the insight that each and every one of us is God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to work toward God’s purposeful glory. This is an intriguing idea, because it calls to mind the idea of wisdom. I commonly refer to wisdom as the proper application of knowledge toward an eternal goal. The Old Testament Hebrew gives a unique understanding about wisdom, too, that is a beautifully nuanced idea: you participate in God’s wisdom when you live into, and out of, your purpose. Exodus 35:35 shows us that God fills His workmanship — that’s you and me — with the skill to do the work necessary to promote His will and way. This means that when you live into the plan and purpose for your life, you are properly applying what you know and living in such a way that helps God accomplish His eternal goal; namely, the redemption of humanity. Albert Einstein is quoted as saying, “Creativity is more important than knowledge.” Imagine how beautiful life can be if we take those creative aspects God fills us with, know how to apply them, and then do it! Every single one of us will be better for it, not to mention the world. So let’s get to it! Let’s figure out how to take the things that make us God’s workmanship and work for Him in Christ Jesus.
