God’s Seemingly Reckless Love // Matthew 18:12

The theme of today’s verse is beautifully set in the song “Reckless Love” by Bethel Music. The BIG idea is how God chases after those who are wayward in a way that seems cavalier to those who do not know His heart. So much of our understanding of relationships carries connotations from economics. We see this in positive terms like investing energy and spending time. We can also experience this in other terms like sunk costs and acceptable losses. God cherishes all of His children and knows that redemption is possible for all those who accept His offer of salvation through the forgiveness of sin; believe in Jesus as His one and only Son raised from the dead; and confess the need for a Savior. God doesn’t want to lose a single solitary soul; in fact, we read, “[God] is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9b). I don’t know about you, but I am grateful for God’s reckless love. He kept pursuing me when I felt like a lost cause and showed me there is so much more to life than what is plainly seen on the surface. May we see every person as someone worthy of the amazing extents to which God goes to save even one.
