God’s Divine Detergent // Psalm 51:7
It’s National Laundry Day, which has nothing to do with money even though they sync up with Tax Day. We are supposed to take pleasure in how nice it is to have clean clothes and the equipment to do our laundry. We do a lot of laundry in the Jordan household. Four pets and one toddler means that we frequently have messes to clean, but when it comes to stains, I must chuckle at myself because of the messes I make particularly when I eat. I am reminded of Psalm 51:7 as it’s rendered in The Message which reads, “Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean, scrub me and I’ll have a snow-white life.” This verse comes from King David’s lament after the tragedies he committed in adultery with Bathsheba and his coverup conspiracy by having her husband, Uriah, killed in battle. David knew his sins stained his life and God was the only One who could help. I don’t know about you, but our efforts to pretreat stains are moot up against the messes we make. We need help that will never come in a detergent aside from God’s grace. He is the only One who can soak us in His laundry, so we’ll come out clean and able to live a snow-white life. I pray you will confidently take the most soiled parts of your life to the Lord’s laundromat and let Him wash you in His divine detergent.
