God Your Glorious Shield // Psalm 3:3

When was the last time you felt your life circumstances were hopeless? Are you in such a phase right now? It feels heavy, overwhelming, doesn’t it? The context for today’s verse points to a time when King David, who wrote the Psalm, felt hopeless. David’s son, Absalom, sent a large army after him. He had pain from the betrayal of his son, fear of the unknown, and knowledge that most others in his life had written him off. David didn’t just survive this fiasco, he thrived after it because of his faith in God. This is why he referred to the Lord as his shield and his glory (remember: glory frequently refers to the physical presence of God in the Bible). David knew that God was with him and protecting him. As a result, he was able to hold his head high in a time when he otherwise was inclined to feel shamefully defeated.

God is with you and wants you to know it. Allow His glorious presence to be a shield around you. You can hold your head high when you are in God’s will. This is a perfect time to remember the blessing found in Romans 8:31, that if God is for us, who can be against us? Who, indeed.
