God wants to Help // Proverbs 9:10
What strikes you as you read today’s verse? For me, I think the idea that fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. This is not the kind of fear that Superman feels at the sight of kryptonite, Indiana Jones when encountering snakes, or what the Cowardly Lion felt at the sight of anything…this fear is what the Bible depicts as a kind of awe one feels when realizing how small he or she is in the grand scheme of things.
God is imminent, but God is also love. Think of it like a child in relationship to a parent. The child is vastly aware of his or her lack of size and abilities compared to a parent, but the love shared between the two brings a peace in the presence. Sure, there are times when a parent must dole out discipline, make a child eat their vegetables, and issue reminders to brush teeth, but none of that is to put down the child; rather, to help him or her grow responsibly.
God wants to share His love, knowledge, and yes, discipline with you and me. God wants to help you develop wisdom and come to understand the things that are only attainable in a relationship with Him. I want to close with a verse from Jeremiah 33:3 as a way to help bring all this home, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Amen!
