God is Surprising // Genesis 50:20
It’s been a MONUMENTAL week celebrating the greatness of God’s love! We have looked at Joseph’s story in Genesis and Jesus’ death and resurrection. All of it is designed to help the kids celebrate the goodness of God’s love. We’ve explored how God loves you no matter what, that God is in charge, and God is stronger than anything — what an AWESOME GOD!!!
Today’s lesson is about how God is surprising. We see this in both Jesus’ resurrection and how Joseph was reunited with his brothers after they sold him into slavery. That led him from the depths of prison and slavery to becoming the second in command of Egypt! Joseph’s brothers did not recognize the prince of Egypt in front of them, and they were terrified when Joseph was revealed. Joseph’s journey taught him to trust in God’s great and absolute power, reminding him that God is in charge, and God is stronger than anything. It also gave him the wisdom to recognize God’s surprises. He exhibited this in Genesis 50:20 as he told his brothers that God intended for good the things they intended for evil. And such is the cause for you and me, too.
We encounter all kinds of awful things in the world. The enemy sends evil our way but God’s surprises can reveal how those things can work for good. We also see this later in Romans that all things work together for good for those who love God. That doesn’t mean that all things are good, but the surprising power of God can work even the worst out and into the best. So trust in that great, absolute power of God. Remember that God loves you no matter what; He is in charge; is stronger than anything; and is surprising — AWESOME GOD!!! Let’s live it in MONUMENTAL fashion!
