Genealogy Day // Matthew 1:1-17
Oscar Wilde wrote that “Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future.” Jesus’ genealogy, as recorded in Matthew 1:1-17, illustrates this perfectly. We see people who lived good lives turn bad, as well as those who lived bad lives turned good. It all illustrates that we have a past — both individually as well as some rotten fruit on branches in our family tree — but this need not determine our destiny. The arrival of Jesus makes it possible for us to receive salvation through the forgiveness of sin to become the new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) that only Jesus can accomplish. So, on this Genealogy Day, place your life in Jesus’ hands so you need not worry about who or what is in your past.
