From Comparison to Compassion // Galatians 6:2

We all have burdens to bear, don’t we? We do ourselves a disservice by comparing our troubles to others’. Often times we try to undersell what we are forced to carry because other people have burdens we couldn’t imagine carrying. I try to get people not to compare their stuff with others’ stuff, because there are others who wouldn’t want to carry what we have to hold. There is some good news when we realize our burdens tend to get lighter when we move beyond comparison to compassion. Our verse for today tells us we fulfill Jesus’ Law to Love when we help others with what burdens them. Jesus said this as recorded in John 13:34, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” This is all about putting our love into action and sharing in the ups and downs of life. I want to close today with a saying that I think helps put this into perspective: joy shared is doubled while grief shared is halved. Let’s do all this for Jesus and in His holy name!
