From Strangers to Siblings // John 3:16

We finished up our daily VBS dives yesterday, but the kids will still learn the content for day 5, just during worship on Sunday. The key verse is John 3:16, often referred to as the Gospel in a nutshell. The story they will learn is from Acts 16:11-15 and how Lydia came to faith. Lydia sold purple cloth, which is associated with royalty. She came to faith and introduced her entire family to the love of God through Jesus. Then, she put her faith into action by showing hospitality to Paul and Silas…strangers turns siblings in the faith. This gives us a beautiful model for our own journey in faith. We accept Jesus and invite Him to be King of our lives. We share that faith with others, introducing them to the King of kings. Then, we are called to show hospitality to those who might seem to be complete strangers, realizing that we are all brothers and sisters in the faith thanks to Jesus. So, as we bring this week’s series to a close through the themes of SCUBA VBS, I hope you will take seriously the call to dive into a friendship with God. Allow that to open your heart, and maybe even your home, to others who need to know Jesus.
