Freedom in Faith // Galatians 5:13

Freedom from or freedom for? That is the gist of the verse we read for today. We often times look at freedom from the point of view that we are free from things like tyranny, oppression, etc. While that might be true to a certain degree, it isn’t the complete picture. The Jesus follower should feel free to do the right thing even if it appears wrong in the eyes of society’s conventional wisdom. God wants you to do the right thing even when it isn’t popular or approved. Why? Because the protection of your eternal soul is what’s at skate as opposed to the current comfort you might miss by standing up and speaking out for God. Don’t use that freedom, though, as a way to present yourself in any way other than a follower of Jesus. Use your freedom to help others know that God is real, loves us, and has a purpose for our lives.
