Foundations // Mark 16:15

Today’s verse gives us a summary of Jesus’ Great Commission as recorded in the Gospel of Mark. There are some really unique word choices here when we look at this in the biblical Greek. I want to focus in on the word, creation, from the Greek root word ktisis. Basically, this word means anything created. That seems pretty straight forward, but there is a subtext in the Greek we miss in the English translation. Ktisis can also refer to the foundation, or founding, of a new thing. We’re talking about our New Testament life here…the Good News of Jesus Christ! 1 Corinthians 3:11 affirms for us that Jesus Himself is that foundation —“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” This shows us that Jesus is the founder of our faith, foundation of our faith, and finisher of our faith! It isn’t about us in the slightest. No, it is all about Jesus who was with God in creation, brings us our salvation, and sends us the Holy Spirit to help the rest of the way. So, may we stake our lives on Jesus and stay on His path, founded and finished forever!
