Finite Troubles < Infinite Hope // John 14:1

Today is National Civil Rights Day, celebrated on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday. I recently read a quote of his that was new to me: “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” That brings to mind the verse I selected for today when Jesus told the disciples not to let what was about to come skew their view of what God has in store for them. This is good news for all of us! We will all face difficulties in life that can dash our dreams, but if our hearts are set on the Lord’s infinite hope, then the temporary troubles we face will not erase the eternal hope Jesus died to secure. So, on this MLK Day, acknowledge that disappointments are a part of life, but God’s hope points us to eternal life!
