Faith > Fear and Love > Judgment // John 5:24
I have lots of conversations these days about the end times. People see and sense signs all around that Jesus will return soon. When? We don’t know; in fact, the only thing we do know is we are now one day closer. Should be live in paralyzing fear until Christ returns? Shall we sequester ourselves and not faithfully engage the world? Nope, not at all! Jesus Himself said we need not fear the end times judgment is we hear His words and believe in Him. This sentiment was echoed by the Apostle John who wrote, “This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love (1 John 4:17-18, NIV). John’s point is that when we live for Jesus and obey His command that we love as God first loves us, then there is no need to fear judgement because it leads to punishment. God’s perfect love made manifest in us enables to fulfill Christ’s law to love and await paradise with great expectation. So, if you find yourself fretting over the coming last days, don’t focus on fear but love…the love God has for you and commands you to share with others. That perfect love drives out fear and makes even more room for faith.
