Dwell with God // Psalm 27:4

Psalm 27:4 (NIV) | One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

Yesterday we explored the difference in building our lives either on the sturdy foundation of God’s word or the flimsy foundation of conventional wisdom. One will stand when the storms arrive while the other will collapse.

Today we look at Psalm 27:4 where King David wrote about making the presence of God the stronghold of his life. I hope this is something we all strive to do, but there is no doubt it can be challenging at times. It’s hard when we feel rejection and betrayal for sure. I remind myself regularly I would rather be in God’s good graces than those who oppose the Lord. When it comes to building our eternal lives, however, we need to trust the Lord. I think this is one of those serendipitous moments where we realize God sent Jesus to learn about life from a carpenter. Consider what Jesus said in John 14:2-3 as He said He was preparing to leave to prepare a place for all His followers in God’s eternal home.

Let’s aim to seek out God today and every day. Let’s make being in God’ presence our top priority and the longing of our hearts. It’s what He wants for us, too!
