Don’ fight 🔥 with 🔥 // Romans 12:21
You will be hard pressed to find a more inspiring section of Scripture than what is found in Romans 12. The idea is about living together with others, acknowledging that isn’t isn’t always easy. The last couple days we’ve explored walking together with others, but ensuring we do so in the will and way of Jesus. Looking at today’s verse, we see an acknowledgment that there are times we end up in conflict despite our best efforts. Paul’s teaching is an emphatic call to remember not just who we are, but whose we are; especially in times of conflict. There might be occasions when we feel inclined to slip back into our more human and fleshy patterns — fighting fire with fire — but that damages our Christian witness. The Bible’s instruction is to trust God to balance the scales when we find ourselves fighting amongst each other. I wish this were easy, but it’s not. At all. The best news is in trusting God we trust the One who knows all, sees all, and can accomplish all in His eternal power that you or I never could on our own. So, if you find yourself in a pickle with someone else today, remember today’s verse, which is preceded by these words: “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all” (Romans 12:18).
