Do Good

1 Peter 3:13

I’ve come to change my thinking on this verse. I now see that there are plenty in the world who seek to harm those aiming to do good; especially if that good is based on God’s eternal truth. It’s disconcerting. It’s diabolical. Should that deter or dissuade us? Absolutely not!

Jesus told the disciples a hard truth before His crucifixion: “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first” (John 15:18). Jesus’ ultimate point is that we might face apparent harm in the here-and now, but it will not last. What can last is the impact of faith, hope, and love lived out in the example of Christ. So now when I think about, “who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?”, it really comes down to can anyone who matters harm you if you are eager to do good? That answer is a resounding, NO!

So if you feel compelled to do something good for someone today, don’t worry about what anyone might say or do in response; rather, follow God’s lead and do what you do so people may see that God is real, God loves everybody, and has a purposeful plan for our lives.
