Life in the Deep // 1 John 4:16 (MSG)
1 John 4:16 (MSG) | This is how we know we’re living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us: He’s given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit. Also, we’ve seen for ourselves and continue to state openly that the Father sent his Son as Savior of the world. Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God’s Son participates continuously in an intimate relationship with God. We know it so well, we’ve embraced it heart and soul, this love that comes from God.
I recall how I felt about the deep end of a pool when I was a child. It was so scary…so intimidating. The stronger I grew at swimming, the more I realized the depth of the water really had little bearing on my ability to swim. We once went out into the ocean to swim with the dolphins (AMAZING experience!) and I didn’t really have to think about the depth of the water because I knew I could swim regardless if the water was 3 feet deep, 30 feet deep, 300 feet deep, or whatever. Life can get awfully deep for us sometimes, can’t it? The power of God’s Spirit wants you to know that regardless how deep you go, you never go alone. Consider what we find in Isaiah 43:2, “When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down” (MSG). The beauty of this verse isn’t in your ability to swim, but God giving you the spiritual buoyancy you need breathe — and breathe deeply — regardless of the depth. This powerful gift is made available to you by the love of God in Jesus Christ. He wants a continuous and intimate relationship with you…this, after all, is why you were conceived, created, and called. So confess your sin and need for a Savior; contemplate how you can live in, for, and with Him; them commit to do it.
