Courage over Cowardice // 2 Timothy 1:7
I’ve always tended to be a timid person, but years ago I was deeply challenged when I read Revelation 21:8. It struck me that the Bible places “cowards” at the forefront of those who will not enter the Kingdom of God. That realization was sobering. It reminds me of a powerful quote by C.S. Lewis: “Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point—which means at the point of highest reality.” In other words, courage is what enables and strengthens every other virtue when it truly matters. Honestly, we can’t sustain eternal courage on our own. We need help. Scripture shows us that God commands us to be bold—meaning He Himself becomes the source of our courage. It’s His presence with us and His power within us that reassures us: God is greater than anything we face. Through His love and strength, we find the self-discipline to stand firm when we’re tempted to run. And that strength begins with surrender—falling to our knees in prayer. Ultimately, all of this is possible because of the Holy Spirit working in us and through us!
